If Genesis isn't taken literally, who's sin did Jesus die for?

this is an interesting blog post by the author cj werleman - write of the books god hates you, hate him back and jesus lied - he was only human.

he writes with a good dose of humor which usually helps get his point across.. the blog post dissects the latest gallup poll results regarding 40% of americans believe in biblical creationism.

but the point i found interesting in it was that if you don't believe the genesis account is literal....then jesus atoned for the sin of a fictitious character, adam.. here is a quote from the blog...but please give the whole thing a read, makes more sense that way:.

So Harsh Perry. Did ya parrot bite you? Good to see you back on the forum. I find you rather entertaining.

Perhaps Jesus was a well meaning fellow who acted above his pay-grade and paid a terrible price for upsetting the Roman hierarchy. He was a sincere but perhaps misguided dreamer, who should have stuck to his day job.

There is always room for middle ground. Modern Christianity exists on a bed of shifting middle ground. Spiritual matters are not cast in stone, so I have no problem with that.

Inflexibility is a sign of weakness not strength. Most religion and mythology is based on legends and tales, that though told as literal, are intended to be imbued with deeper spiritual meaning

To those who believe in an afterlife reward, what is the big deal about death?

muslims and christians, and probably most other religions i suspect, seem to believe in a happy afterlife which is inevitably better and longer lasting than this one on earth.

so what is wrong with dying and death here now?

why the terrible grief at the death of loved ones?

Change can be painful for humans and death is one hell of a change. Unlike me, not everyone is destined for hell but even so it's a bit of a wrench.

However good heaven is, those that make it will never again enjoy a good malt scotch or whatever their favourite tipple is. I understand that sex is out of the question, as is a` la cart food.

Leaving behind ones relatives behind is however a most appealing prospect.

Elder knocks on my door... couldn't see who it was and I opened it...

so an elder came to my door the other day in field circus.

i looked through the peephole to see who it was, but the way the door is situated against the sky in the background i couldn't see anything but a silhouette.

not to mention he was standing off to the side so to make it hard for anyone to see who was knocking.. so i open the door thinking it was my friend since he is the only jw that knows where i live.

Sounds like a sincere man with a conscience who wanted to do the right thing. There were many kind and wonderful elders when I was part of the Borg, whom I remember with great affection.

Unfortunately they have been misled by a cynical and calculating organization which has sacrificed its sincerity in order to hold on to power - that most corrupting of temptations.

Are Faith and Reason Compatible? Jan Awake

here's some quotes from that article:.

the bible says, for example, that if your worship is to be acceptable to god, it must be a sacred service with your power of reason.

in other words, you must worship god in a way that is worthy of thinking beings.

Faith and Reason can be compatible. Then again they can be opposed. Human life is a complicated process and each person's reality is a part of the jigsaw.

The Wt society make the mistake of trying to supply all the pieces and the box the jigsaw goes in. Then they try to put the jigsaw together for their members.

The aim is to make out that without their divine guidance we are all lost. Lost is good!

brother numtea called round today to drop of the latest cancer filled ragazines, we never know when he's going to turn up.

i was looking out the front window and spotted him walking up the drive.

then just before he pressed the door bell he about turned and sprinted back down the road, no mean feat if your an old man and there's snow and ice everywhere !!!

Has anyone noticed that they are really pushing that Satan is after us and how much the world hates us.

it seems like the january 15th wt and the march 15 wt are about satan attacking us.

maybe it is because i am seeing things more clearly or maybe they are truly using it more.

they are really getting into the fact that the world hates us a quote from the jan 15th wt on page 30 says "the world is basically hostile toward us.

Satan's not such a bad guy if you get on the right side of him. He just got off on a sticky wicket back in Eden and has had a bad press ever since.

Of course the Watchtower Society are pushing Satan, he's the best friend they ever had. Without Satan there would be no purpose to their organization or their existence. In fact they wouldn't be here. If all humans had lived forever from the start, the world would have been filled long ago and they would never have been born. So they owe him their lives.

It could be that Jehovah invented Satan just to cover his own tracks. More likely, both Jehovah & Satan were invented bu men who saw that the idea of their existence was a lucrative idea. The competing duo have lined the pockets of their puppet masters for Milena. The Watchtower has benefited from the double act for more than a hundred years. If Satan really existed he would be on commission.

what would you do if they called, would you invite them in?.

Offer the most attractive one of them a lift. A lift on to the top of my Christmas tree that is.

No! Seriously, I'll take the day of from being a gladiator and try to be a nice person for the whole day.

Anyone that knocks at my door on Christmas day will be offered a drink of their choice and a piece of cake.

If society UPHELD the pagan origins of umbrellas would the R and F obey?

if the society said that umbrellas were indeed pagan, because their origins are, and you would be dfed if you used one do you think the rank and file would obey?

or do you think that would push them over the edge?

i can just see the wealthy witness woman you know, the real pretentious ones not going out when it rains etc..

Umbrellas are undoubtedly pagan. They have also been used as weapons.

Worse that this, umbrellas have been used to promote loose conduct.

Why does the God of the Bible command us to love him?

mark 12: 28-31 - 28 one of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.

noticing that jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, of all the commandments, which is the most important?.

29 the most important one, answered jesus, is this: hear, o israel: the lord our god, the lord is one.30 love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.31 the second is this: love your neighbor as yourself.

AGuest ... my Lord just said to me, "The truth, child, is that it's the other way around."

Which ever way around we put it we come back to the same choice. We can live by the sword or live by love. Whether we credit our our-self or our god - the result, in this world, is the same. As for the next world, I 'll have to wait and see what my gods have planned.
